I really don't remember a lot about this nights game - at least compared to what is usually a deep anthology of hands, quotes, and bad beats. Maybe others can contribute some recollections.
What I do recall is that I was happy with my play, but even happier with my cards. It was definitely one of those nights where many hands worked out well for me. Several times I played into an opponent only to have them go All In against me at exactly the wrong time - for them. Both Ray F and Ken N did what they had to do. Ray F was short stacked and pushed in with his 4 Flush with AXs, and Ken N thought his AJ had me with top pair, top kicker when the flop came JXX. Unfortunately both times I had pulled Bullets, and both times they held up. They were "Done at the cut." as I have taken to saying.
Mark Y got up early, and most of us avoided clashes with him for the better part of the game. But oddly the "friendship" between he and Aaron W seemed to prompt some definite "vendetta" play between the two of them. Certainly Mark Y entered some pots just because Aaron W was playing.
When it came down to Randy R and I, observers began saying things like "Well with Adam's stack size it'll be over soon..." But Aaron W had been warning everyone all night about the dangers of Lady Luck's opinions of hubris. I had no intention of tempting her. I did have a good lead over him, but Randy R put up a serious fight. He made up some real ground, and for a while I feared that Miss Luck and mistaken the other's assertions for my own. But in the end I was pleased to have escaped her ire and capture the win.
