Version 1 - mystical
After committing a sacrifice to the gods of luck (by allowing Mick a horrific early suckout) and after waiting the appropriate time period (about 2 hours), Eric capitalized on the corresponding spike in his dark powers to annihilate the remaining competition and claim his rightful place at the head of the earnings rankings. Thereby completely demolishing the last vestiges of Adam J's argument that 'only playing big money night is stupid'.

Version 2 - materialist
The most noteworthy moment of the early game saw Mick, Eric, and Josh all-in pre flop. Eric with pocket Kings, Josh with A-10, and Mick with pocket Jacks. Josh made his Ace on the flop (it was a diamond, this is important later in the story). Eric was vindicated on the turn when he tripped his Kings (also a diamond... wait for it...) Only to be smashed at the river by a 4th diamond on the board, making Mick's flush with her Jack of Diamonds. It was brutal and beautiful and everything we love and hate about poker. Final five action was spartan, with Ray taking out Dallas, Adam taking out Josh, and Ray, Adam, and Eric in the final three (as if in some sort of homage to season one of mcjo's, or perhaps reminiscent of the last birthday tournament). As usual Eric made terrible loose calls and horrific suckouts to luck his way to victory over the superior skills, timing, and patience of the true veterans Adam and Ray (just like at the tournament last year... one almost starts to wonder if it is really a fluke... almost...) Following the results of the game Eric moves into first place in the earnings column for the season (Sorry Daniel and Randy, I guess you just win all the wrong games), also Ray moves into first place in the average scoring category (thereby demonstrating mathematically the aforementioned superiority thing). Also, this win provides further empirical support for Eric's big-money-night-only strategy, which has now netted him the highest earnings, 2 first place finishes and a second place finish in the 3 months he has stuck to the plan. Fluke... Punk...

Version 3 - mythical

Sensing that a crushing of the highest magnitude was about to happen, Randall decides to consult one of his ancestral gods. Realizing that he doesn't know shit about Celtic or Druid deities, he reaches back to the miniscule part that is Italian and settles on Athena for advice.

The goddess tells him that if he goes to poker that he will be sent home $50 poorer and with no points. He therefore decides to entertain his out-of-town guests. He takes them to The Driskill and then Manuels, returning home to stay up late conversing over original music, the Austin scene and the viabiity of a music career in Central Texas before retiring at approximately 1:30.

The moral: Since Randall spent way more than $50 and stayed up even later than the game's end time, he ain't calling Athena for any more financial advice.
