Not thinking for a second I would have to compose another Victor's Summary Blog, I didn't consign much of the evening's play to memory, so this is my recollection (feel free to add/correct, Adam). Tonight's theme is "Bullets in-hand when you really need 'em never 'urts."
The evening began fairly quietly, maybe we were taking it easy to welcome my work buddy David on his freshman visit, or maybe it was Mr Flowers' absence putting a damper on the betting - but whatever, no-one went out during the first two rounds, and no-one had a particular advantage over anyone else. By Round 3 things heated up and Ken exercised the Vulture Option, taking the cash prize up to a still-modest $60.
Adam, the lovely host, wielded the Grim Reaper's scythe on poor lil' newcomer David, whose Ace-in-hand paired up with one on the flop. David had been playing very conservatively so far and his aces caused him to go all-in. Adam cordially buried him with five spades - AA being nice, but no match for a flush. Sadly, Adam couldn't hold onto those chips much longer after that, and was knocked out a few hands later (can't remember who or by what).
I'd had a decent-ish stack, but was worn down to about 1.5 buy-ins due to my congenital desire to call; but with Adam dealing and David sitting by to observe (and watching my cards), the hands started to improve for me and I was able to become chip leader. I was able to field good cards when required, basically - though never more so than in the case of my "career-best massacre."
Ray, whose chip stack had diminished a bit before he showed up, but a lot after he arrived, was going all-in - with an amount that scared no-one. Dallas was next, and didn't really want anyone else to call so he isolated with his own all-in - significantly more chips, like 5 times what Ray had. A respectable chip pile. I looked at my cards and showed 'em to David at the same time - BULLETS. I innocently asked if I, chip leader by a significant margin over Dallas, could isolate again uber alles, and that was OK, so I did. Like a deer in headlights, somehow Ken didn't sense imminent doom and followed us all with his own puny all-in, just for the helluvit. Four of us all-in, pre-flop. After sorting out the complex pots, and everyone else folding, we flipped, and naturally I looked like a right lucky bastard for having AA right when it could work its magic the best. My cards prevailed, I mopped up and killed 3 guys out of the game in one hand.
With just myself, Phil, John and Aaron left, I tightened up and lost quite a few chips as they ran roughshod over me. I ended up low-stack actually, though not by much. Fortunately the table turned again and I was able to get back into a respectable position. After thinking the night would be over quick, the four of us played a LONG time. Phil eventually went out next, can't remember by what or whom.
Aaron was next, I was sick of his aggressive pushing and went all-in - and Aaron called me, but I won by a narrow hand margin and gouged out almost all his chips. Aaron had only 2,000 left, at a time when small blind was 1,500 - so you can guess, Aaron was dealing pretty soon after that (even after I folded a few times and gave him chips... there was a time I had stuff like 2-6 offsuit and took heat for handing my big blind to him...!).
With Aaron dealing, and David back in to deal as well, John and I went head-to-head. John utilised this crazy all-in technique, where I could only assume it was not worth it to me to play, and I would fold constantly. He had quite the revenue stream out of that business model, I can tell you. With John owning about a third of all the chips on the table, it took another set of BULLETS in-hand for me to call one of his crazy all-ins, and when I did, it was over.
Thanks to David for staying 'til the end & dealing. Honestly David, the entire night wasn't rigged just 'cos you were coming :)
Next week, I'll make copious notes for my 3rd victorious episode, which will be entitled "Return Of The King" 'cos of some certain cards I might utilise...
