Noob suprised all with a victory
1st ($195 / 13pts): Phil "Noob" Bunce
2nd ($95/ 9pts): Aaron "End it now" Wanstrath
3rd ($0 / 5pts): Mick "S0 close" McNulty
High Stakes / # Players / 1 Table / 1215a Endtime
So... it started w/me knocking over a glass of water onto the laptop... and ended w/me knocking out the better player. :) In the meantime, there was my sorta string raise, my early all-in, and any number of other gaffs to make the other players cringe...
Unfortunately, I really didn't think I'd be the one to recap, so my mental Tivo wasn't recording (as Adam's always is!).
Hmmm... was there anything memorable... oh yeah... Eric's premature flip. Two all-in's and a caller before Eric. He calls the all-in's, and due to some confusion, shows his cards, and thus has a dead hand. His pocket 8s would have become trips, and he would have taken down a nice pot. Instead, he had to watch the money flow away. Hard not to tilt after that, and Eric apparently didn't recover from that.
Play was steady for the first 2 rounds, with a couple of rebuys. Martin finally made it to the table for the last 2 hands of the second round, I think. Mick got the vulture rebuy.
Aaron had a pretty large stack for most of the evening. Martin got a nice stack going for a while, as did Randy. Adam went down, then up, then down again, as chips flowed around the table. Seamus, unfortunately, just never got any cards worth playing, and was slowly ground down. Dallas had a few hands worth playing, but seems like most often they were just not quite good enough.
I don't remember any "bad beats", so chime in if I have forgotten or blocked it out.
Once we were down to 4, Aaron had the rest of us covered by quite a bit. Unfortunately, his cards dried up, so he sat pretty quietly while the rest of us tried to survive. I think it was pocket 9s for Mick that lost to pocket Js.
In heads up, I had chipped up, and Aaron worn down, until we were pretty even for a while. Slowly tho, I got the better of Aaron, and I think he was finally frustrated/tired enough to go all in on a diamond flush draw. I called w/the slightly better (altho still shameful) diamond flush draw. In the end, my J-rag held up to his 7-4, and I went home with my first McJo's win.
