So the party is officially over. As we began, Adam unveiled the "New, New, New and Improved Rebuy/Vulture/Pterodactyl Rules" for standard McJo's League play.
As I understood them, they are as follows:
- Single rebuy per player in the first two rounds.
- One "Vulture" rebuy at 2x buyin during the 3rd round, which can only be exercised by someone who hasn't already used that single rebuy.
- HOWEVER, a single player can rebuy twice IFF (if and only if) they lose on a "Vegas-Level Bad Beat (Aces get cracked, You get U-Boated (also includes a Boat losing to Quads), The opposing player uses 4 cards from the board to beat you)
Adam will no doubt edit, or clarify the above, but the basic gist was "Martin rules no longer apply." It was a beautiful, devil-may-care era, folks - we should always cherish it.
So, let's get back to the results.
'Twas a night with only the teensiest drama. Eric polished off a liter-sized bottle of Cider or Zima or Bartles'n'Jaymes or "Gay Juice" or Whatever during the first two rounds, and was heard to quip "I find it difficult to walk the line between 'playing the loose cannon' and 'playing loose.'" He then went all-in blind. Well, not quite - but he *wanted* to. A few loose calls later, and Eric had rebought and then doubled his money.
"New Guy" Phil (this was at least his second appearance at McJo's) fell victim to the "First Player Out After the Vulture Has Been Used" clause, and ended up dealing for quite a while.
Mick played quietly all night, if the word "quietly" describes someone with ten different noise-makers at her fingertips. Suffice it to say that Mr. T clearly pities the fool who give Mick some o' dat jibber-jabber. She went out after Phil on the single worst hand of the night. Technically, it wasn't a bad beat, since I actually flopped a straight. That said, I didn't look at my cards until the river. Playing blind ALWAYS works.
Adam lost on what wasn't a loose call by Eric (Eric had top pair and a straight draw when he called Adam's all-in), when his low straight was counterfeited by Eric's high one. Luckily, since Adam lives there, we got to listen to him complain bitterly for a good hour after that.
Eric's luck finally ran out and/or his blood alcohol level got high enough that I took him out with a sneaky low straight, leaving Margaret, Daniel and me to vie for the win. Unfortunately for Margaret and Daniel, my taking out Mick and then Eric (after Eric had gotten pretty big from gobbling up Adam's stack and a significant chunk of Margaret's stack) left the table *exceedingly* heavy on my side.
Margaret lost on a race, and so did Daniel. Adam, shockingly, didn't care about anything except for the amount that Daniel's point lead over him had grown during the course of the evening's events.
