How The @#$@#$ Do You Guys Remember This Stuff? aka "Tighten Up Baby"
Desperately trying to figure out what the @#$@# to write in this, yes, my first game blog. I read over Martin's previous (and quite entertaining) recap and wonder, "How the hell does he remember all this about the game???". Seriously, I feel like these games are stored only in RAM and once the game is over -boom, deleted. They say good players have hand amnesia, but really, come on - I remember everything Martin wrote about, I just couldn't have remembered it meself.
Most exciting moment for me? After much consideration, folding my QQ against two all-ins (Martin and then Randy). One of them had KK. I figure the biggest moves in this game can't be going all-in with AA, right? That's way to easy and we'd all do it. Or betting big with the nut flush...easy cheesy. The HARD moves are walking away from hands that kill you. So, yes - bet at me. please. I'll fold if you bet enough - I promise.
Folding big but ultimately deadly hands, earning when you hit and calling with middling hands. Those are the major moves I think.
I am also struggling with the fact that if I were to offer up much of what I have to say about the game I would simply be offering up a little extra information to the table on how I think, or worse how I think they think. Now that would be silly, wouldn't it? I'll just shut-up about all that now.
So in lieu of any sort of real game recap, how about a few impressions on the game tonight, and the league status overall? That stuff I save - oh indeed I do!
The theme for this year, if the first few months are any indication, is "Tighten Up Baby". Used to be top pair was often good. Used to be we would see a lot of showdowns between two sizeable stacks when one person is on a flush or even (gasp!) a straight draw. It still happens, but rarely - more often than not these days (at least while we are still pretty close to a full table) we never see the hands. Big bets come less frequently and are more respected when they come.
Having never witnessed a pro-type game (except those wildly abridged TV shows) I can't say for sure, but it certainly "feels" like that sort of game. A wildly dangerous world where if you aren't worried about that flush when you flop two pair you won't be around long, and your tens feel strong - sure they do - until Adam or Martin re-raises you (see previous post by Martin for direct evidence).
I wish i could remember more about this particular game. I remember Randy had KK at least three times (and I suspect one more). Even more miraculously, and to his credit, he made money on most of them. I remember folding those lovely lovely Queens. I recall playing heads up with Randy round after round after round until I wore that @#$@##$@##$@ down and took all his chips with my JJ vs his 99.
Two basic rules to winning at McJo's Poker: when Jen bets, you fold. When Mick bets, you raise. And everyone else? Steal their chips during break. It works for me!
