Week 27: Please Play With Us. Please.

Location: Chez Bates
1st (10p / 1k / $25): Julie "Wears the Pants" Bates
2nd (7p / 2k / $10): David "Yes Ma'am" Bates
3rd (4p / 3k): Lee "Never Bet a Pair of Jacks" Nichols
4th (2p / k): Martin "Not Out First" Galway

5th (1p / k): Heidi Ivey

After desperately casting about for a quorum, and annoying everyone in the McJo's mailing list with 1,284,883 e-mails, we finally settled on the Bates household up in Cedar Park, because those two gave us sufficient players. Nice digs, and they even had a keg of Shiner (not likely to be a feature at future games there).

I'm late for work and not nearly as funny as Randall, so you'll have to settle for a dry recitation of the facts:

I built a good stack early on with kills of Martin and Heidi, both of whom re-bought. Dave then sent Heidi home when her cowboys lost to his 9-5. Seriously. He hit two pair on the river.

Martin spent some time bleeding out and finally did a desperation all-in and I beat him on the river. I'm pretty sure my three kills was a personal single-game record, but they were ultimately for naught: My J-J all-in got smacked down when Dave, with one 10 in his hand, hit two more on the flop.

This put our gracious hosts into a marital spat, with Julie working David hard with the verbal attack. Mr. Bates was big stack by four or five times, but Mrs. Bates cut him down to size. Sorry, can't remember the major hands, but it was some serious spousal abuse. Martin and I (the dealers) at one point thought the evening was over until we realized the Bates family had a K-3 boat chop. The evening finally ended just after midnight when David's QJ ran into Julie's AQ, and another A on the board cinched it.
